Here kitty kitty. I love our neighbor's paintings. She recently surprised us with a portrait of Bella. This one appeared in her window a few days ago. #MaynardMA - via Instagram

"Come to the woods, for here is rest. There is no repose like that of the green deep woods." -John Muir ---------- Muir, Thoreau, and many others have written extensively about the restorative power of nature, and I am a firm believer in that power. Today during my lunch break I took a walk along a trail through the woods near my office, and I immediately felt a calmness and sense of peace. A snowstorm had ended just about an hour before, the sun was out, and the birds were becoming active as the temperature rose. I sauntered along the trail on the fresh snow, didn't see another human, and observed all sorts of birds during the short time I was out - orioles, robins, herons, hawks, blue jays, a red-bellied woodpecker, a swan, geese, and loons, among others. - via Instagram

The Journey Thus Far

Recently I have had a few people ask me how I got into data analysis and visualization. The path itself probably isn't that interesting to most people (in a nutshell it went something like customer service in the printing industry to IT systems administration in the printing and banking worlds to selling wine, back to the corporate world in a technical role, back to the wine business, back to the corporate world in a technical role, and finally into the world of data analysis and visualization, with a short stint as a sales incentive compensation consultant wedged in there).

Those questions have caused me to reflect on how I got here and why I enjoy it. That reflection led me to start this blog - hopefully there is something in my experience that others will find valuable.
